Red-winged Blackbird....Agelaius phoeniceus




I don't normally get these guy's at my place....once in awhile at one of the pond's....but I don't see them at any of my feeder's......normally. Yesterday, was not normal.......

What is it? I've never seena bird with markings like that? And why wasn't yesterday normal? Just curious.

A Red-winged Blackbird, Chuck. The weather has been very UN-Fall like much warmer then normal and I think most of the animal life and plant life are very confused with this crazy weather.
Bill, those are Hickory tree nuts...they are eating the oil sunflower seed from the feeder though. The Blue Jays and Squirrelsand yes, even the Chipmunks eat the hickory nuts. The Bluebirds eat the larvae from inside some of the hickory nuts too. The "Cycle" of Life.

They usually favor marshes, grass and farm lands and they also favor oats, wheat barley and corn. Thats possibly why you haven't seen them at your feeders. And they have a beautiful gurgling almost (Metallic sounding)song!
